Located on a peninsula on the North Shore of Long Island, Port Washington was originally inhabited by the Matinecock Indians. In 1643 they sold the land they called “place of many stones” to 18 English families from Connecticut. The families would go on to call the land Cow Neck Village and established dairy farming and fishing ventures. Port Washington is now a lively waterfront town with a vibrant Main Street.
